The Famous Grouse
Grocer and wine merchant Matthew Gloag created his whisky in 1896. Unconventional from the start, he named it after an iconic Scottish bird rather than himself. It was the whisky's popularity, together with its quality, which led to its success. This was the reason Gloag added the word "Famous" to the name in 1905. The Famous Grouse is a blended Scotch whisky containing fine single malts, including two of the world’s most revered: The Macallan and Highland Park. Scots clearly cherish its rich, smooth character, as The Famous Grouse has been Scotland’s favorite whisky for more than 30 years.
