Veracruz, Mexico is home to Kahlúa and a culture rich with blended traditions. In 1930, the Alvarez brothers harvested premium Arabica coffee beans from the fields of Veracruz. They engaged Señor Blanco, a local entrepreneur, to use their beans in a spirits recipe he was backing. Six years later, chemist Montalvo Lara used the Alvarez brothers' coffee beans to create the original Kahlúa recipe that is still enjoyed today. The original coffee and sugar cane spirit, everything from the ingredients to the label and bottle design have been inspired by its rich heritage.
