For its 300th anniversary, Martell pays tribute to its origins. Three hundred years ago, on his journey through the region of Cognac, Jean Martell selected, thanks to instinct, the best local winegrowers that produced the most refined eaux-de-vie. Together, they created an exquisite cognac, one that started the history of the Martell House. Three hundred years later, Benoit Fil, Martell’s current Cellar Master, traveled on the same road Jean Martell did in 1715 and worked with the same local winegrowers, selecting their best and oldest eaux-de-vie and letting them age in a barrel made from a 300-year-old oak tree. To magnify this tribute, he asked French artist Bernar Venet, known for his powerful and timeless creations, to imagine a piece of art expressing 300 years of turning cognac into art. The result is a remarkable spirit, celebrating both Martell’s history and its mastery of cognac.
