Carel was founded by Georges and Rosette Carel in Paris in 1952. Shoe and leather goods makers, they opened their first store on Boulevard Saint Germain, just a stone's throw from the Sorbonne. Color is what made Carel successful, and it's still the essence of the company today. At the end of the Second World War, all shoes were black or brown. The founders decided to go in a different direction and were able to inject some joie de vivre into their elegant trotter shoes, available in an endless palette of colors. Carel has thrived over the years thanks to its unique identity, timeless style, traditional savoir-faire ensuring high-quality shoes and, more recently innovation, thanks to its Carel Cares line of more environmentally friendly shoes.
