DFS Exclusive: Burberry’s Christopher Bailey on London, Travel & Our Special Collection
On September 21, we invite you to shop a special collection by Burberry created exclusively for DFS & T Galleria. For the first time in its history, Burberry will debut a new collection on the runway at London Fashion Week with immediate availability for purchase globally.

“DFS are such important partners to us at Burberry and we wanted them to be a big part of our new September collection. Our collaboration includes exclusively designed pieces inspired by elements from the runway.” — Christopher Bailey, Chief Executive Officer & Chief Creative Officer, Burberry

Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, the collection contrasts masculine and feminine styles across different periods in history with design codes seen throughout the exclusive collection for DFS & T Galleria.

In an exclusive interview with DFS, Christopher Bailey opens up about his relationship with travel, London and our upcoming collection.

What does travel mean to you?
“Travel is an important part of my life both personally and professionally. I feel very privileged to have seen the places and met the people I have. My travels and where they take me continue to serve as a constant source of inspiration for me.”

What’s the most inspiring journey you’ve taken?
“It’s really difficult to pick just one – I’ve loved so many for very different reasons. I often find that it’s less about the final destination, but the planning and anticipation of the trip – what’ll I’ll do, where I’ll go, who I will be able to catch up with when I get there. I have a few really exciting trips planned for later this year, including a trip to China, Hong Kong and Japan, which I’m really looking forward to. These countries are very special to me, and are home to some incredible memories. More immediately, I will be travelling to Yorkshire, for a weekend break with my family.”

Why is London special to you?
“London is an incredibly special place for me – it continues to inspire me every day and in so many ways, from the architecture to the people, the culture, museums and the wonderful green spaces that make up our parks and gardens. What makes London so special is the incredible energy and creativity that runs through the city. London is not only my personal hometown, but it’s also the heart of Burberry. Our global headquarters are in Westminster, which is such an iconic and beautiful part of London, with the River Thames, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey on our doorstep.”

Where is the best view? What do you get to see?
“I would have to say a night-time cab ride through London, up the Mall towards Buckingham Palace and along the river – it’s a journey that takes you past all of the magical views of London and its beautiful monuments.”

What have you learnt about the culture and the people that live here?
“London never stands still and that is one of the things I love about it. I also like the fact that tradition and history sit alongside the cutting edge of art, culture and design. The contrast and constant evolution create a very powerful atmosphere of dynamism and energy.”

Where’s the best place for a cup of tea?
“At the moment my favourite place to stop for a cup of tea is our all-day café, Thomas’s, in London, which serves the most delicious afternoon tea!”
