Ha’a Keaulana rode her first wave when she was just three years old, and she’s been conquering swells ever since. The Hawaii native combined her passion for surfing and her love of taking photographs to carve out her own path catching not only currents, but also incredible surf and nature photography. With a lifetime spent on the Hawaiian islands, she’s letting us in on her favorites beaches, sights and more, exclusively for DFS.
My favorite escape in Hawaii is, of course, the ocean. It just makes you feel so welcome.
For the perfect day, I’d recommend heading out to the North Shore and going swimming at Waimea Bay. Stop in Haleiwa Town, grab some shaved ice, and going to Ehukai Beach to watch professional surfing. That’s where the famous pipeline is.
One of my favorite nice, simple hikes is Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail. It’s a breathtaking view. The best beach to learn how to surf is, of course, Waikiki. It’s super iconic. And one of my favorite places is Town & Country Surf Shop. That’s where you can get the latest surf gear and surfboards.
For dinner, I would highly recommend Mahina & Sun’s at Surfjack Hotel, and for drinks, Duke’s, which is right by the ocean, and you can see the sunset and enjoy one of their famous Mai Tais.
I’m Ha’a Keaulana, and my Hawaii is my sweet escape.
