Ume Furikake featuring Johnnie Walker
The Ume Furikake combines Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Bourbon Cask and Rye Finish Blended Scotch Whisky with the Japanese furikake condiment to create an unexpectedly luscious summer drink. The blended whisky’s balance is the perfect complement to the sweet tartness of plum, smooth egg white layer, and acidic undertone of lemon—all magnified by the umami punch of the furikake.
Ingredients & Tools: 2 oz. Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch 1 oz. lemon juice 1 whole plum (pitted) 0.5 oz. plum sauce 0.5 oz. sugar syrup 1 egg white, small to medium sized egg 5-6 ice cubes for shaking 2 ice cubs for serving Garnish: Furikake seasoning on rim of glass, small halved plums on cocktail pick Tools: Muddler, Shaker, Jigger, Hawthorne Strainer, Fine Strainer and Ice tongs (optional)
Step by Step Insructions: 1. Prepare the serving glass by dipping the rim into a shallow bowl of lemon juice, then into the furikake seasoning. 2. Pour all the ingredients into the shaker (without ice). Muddle the plum, then dry shake vigorously for approximately seven seconds to emulsify the egg white. 3. Add ice to the shaker and shake for another ten seconds. Strain into the serving glass, using the Hawthorne and fine strainers. 4. Garnish with small plums on a cocktail pick. 5. Enjoy the furikake flavor along the rim as you sip the cocktail.
