A mix of tradition and modernity, four generations of the Cointreau family have led Cointreau since the brand was founded over 150 years ago. The Cointreau saga began in 1849 when Adolphe and Edouard-Jean Cointreau, famous master confectioners, established a distillery in Angers to create spirits using local fruits. In 1875, Edouard Cointreau, Edouard-Jean's son, distilled a spirit from sweet and bitter orange peel. It was a major novelty at the time. However, it would become a must-have in the world of cocktails. Today, Alfred Cointreau is a proud and passionate representative of the brand's sixth generation.
