Eigashima distillery was established in 1888 and received its whisky brewing licence in 1919, the first Japanese distillery to do so. In 1984, Eigashima set up its white oak distillery in Hyogo Prefecture’s Akashi City. Whisky produced at the White Oak distillery is known by the name “Akashi”. It is a spirit of relative smoothness and sweetness. Akashi is mainly produced as a blended whisky, with limited amounts of a single malt variety brewed as well.
With more than 100 years of family history, Eigashima has been a pioneer in the Japanese spirits industry. While it remains Japan’s smallest whiskey brewer, the attention it receives is international.
