Staff Picks: The Art of Gifting

’Tis the season of giving

Gifting is an act that’s centered around appreciation and generosity, but giving truly great gifts is also an art — a celebration of thoughtfulness and sentimentality.

To give you some inspiration on gifting as an art form this year, we asked DFS staff to share the gifts they’re planning on presenting to loved ones this December.

“When my best friend treats herself to an occasional luxury item, she always opts for a safe, neutral color so it’s classic enough to last for years. I think she secretly wants a wickedly fun ‘look at me’ luxury accessory in a bright color, but she’d never buy it for herself. To me, that’s a great way to give a gift, and this year, I’ll make sure that’s what she’s unwrapping!”

“When my husband and I went on our honeymoon a few years back, we were ordering Mai Tais every night. Now, every time I see or drink one it takes me back to those balmy beach days. But rather than gifting my husband rum (or a second honeymoon!), I’m going to mark the memories by giving MALIN+GOETZ Dark Rum Eau de Parfum, which captures those memories perfectly.”

“I think the art of giving a great gift often comes down to the memory it evokes. My dad and I have a tradition of making a gin and tonic together as an aperitivo before family dinners, and it’s become a ritual I cherish. I’ll pay tribute to that by gifting him a nice bottle of gin we can drink together.”
