In 1995, Gaja decided to purchase a second farm in the Barolo appellation, this time in the township of La Morra. The location of the cru and its prized fruit made it one of the most coveted and "contended" in the appellation. For this reason, Gaja decided to call the wine Conteisa, Piedmontese dialect for the Italian contesa, meaning the contended vineyard. The nebbiolo in Conteisa reflects the essence of the Cerequio terroir: sumptuous texture and a very refined character with perfectly integrated tannins.
