The Glenlivet is the No. 2 single malt Scotch whisky in the world. It is the single malt that inspired a whole region and laid the foundations for malt whisky.
It was demanded by King George IV who would drink nothing else during his visit to Edinburgh in 1822. Founder George Smith seized the opportunity and obtained the first legal license in the parish of Glenlivet in 1824.
Since then its name was often copied but never equal. After years of legal wrangling, son of George Smith won the exclusive right to call his whisky "The Glenlivet’, definitively marking it as the single malt that started it all.
