On November 7, 1960, founders Robert Miller and Charles Feeney revolutionized travel retail when they opened the first Duty Free Store in Hong Kong. Their vision pioneered the opportunity to offer quality merchandise, a local experience and exceptional service all in one place — forever changing the industry.
Asia-Pacific was their frontier, and through the years, DFS expanded quickly. Every store reflected the founders’ passions for travel and service. Innovative merchandising strategies and the license to sell duty free goods attracted the attention of the world’s leading luxury brands — many of which continue to be our partners today.
In 1982, Mr. Miller commissioned acclaimed Pop artist Andy Warhol to invigorate the brand’s original mark created by Henry Steiner. In keeping with the spirit of exploration and discovery, this interpretation by one of the world’s best-known contemporary artists laid the foundation for today’s iconic DFS logo.
Today we are the world’s leading luxury travel retailer.
