Built in the late 12th and 13th centuries by the Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, Bayon was the official temple of the state, while Ta Prohm was built in honor of the royal family. The 216 striking stone faces are accompanied by numerous reliefs depicting both historical events and everyday life. More recently, Ta Prohm was used as a location in "Tomb Raider."
