Built in 1937, the Shangri La estate houses spectacular Islamic artworks from around the world, collected by American philanthropist Doris Duke. Step into an eclectic mix of objets d’art, from ancient Iranian tiles to 19th century Moorish furnishings, each representing the most exquisite craftsmanship of the Ottoman, Mughal, Safavid, and Qajar dynasties. The estate itself is a wonder to behold, with grandiose Moroccan doorways and regal wooden Syrian interiors complete with gilded ceilings. Outside, exotic gardens overlook a 75-foot saltwater pool, framed with symphonic soundscapes of birdcalls and crashing waves.
